 Maha Paracha

David Donley

My background is in Biochemistry (B.S. Harding University). After teaching for several years and completing an M.S.E. in Education, I joined Dr. Fox's lab to study Huntington's disease. Huntington's disease is a  neurodegenerative disease caused by a genetic mutation. I am interested in studying the environmental influence on neurological disease progression and the interplay between the immune system and brain processes. Broadly, my work is focused on studying the role of neuroinflammatory processes that may drive neurodegeneration. I am co-advised by Dr. Jason Gigley in the University of Wyoming Molecular Biology Department. Specifically, I am interested in the impact of chronic infection with the intracellular parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, on Huntington's disease. I am also studying the relationship of neuroinflammation, microglial enzyme activation, and Huntington's disease. I use both cell culture and mouse models of Huntington's disease to accomplish this goal.
