MEMORIAL SERVICE SET FOR EIGHT UW STUDENT-ATHLETES
Sept. 18, 2001 -- A memorial service for the eight University of Wyoming student-athletes killed Sunday in an early morning traffic accident is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium on the UW campus.
The eight are Justin M. Lambert-Belanger, 20, Timmins, Ontario; Cody B. Brown, 21, Hudson, Colo.; Kyle N. Johnson, 20, Riverton; Joshua D. Jones, 22, Salem, Ore.; Morgan J. McLeland, 21, Gillette; Kevin L. Salverson, 19, Cheyenne; Nicholas J. Schabron, 20, Laramie; and Shane E. Shatto, 19, Douglas.
"The date and time for the memorial service were established to ensure that the families of these young men would be able to attend," says UW President Philip L. Dubois. "We have been in close contact with each of the families to offer any assistance we can provide in this most difficult time of their lives. During our conversations they have expressed a strong desire to be able to spend time with the families who share their individual and collective loss and to attend the memorial service as members of the larger UW family.
"I encourage UW students and members of the faculty, staff, and Laramie communities to join with us in remembering the lives of these eight friends and in supporting their families, many of whom traveled long distances to share their grief with us and to draw strength from us," Dubois continues.
Additional details about the memorial service will be made available as they are developed.
