Feb. 27, 2007 -- Ash Dargan, an Australian indigenous recording artist known for his mastery on the didgeridoo, will give a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the University of Wyoming College of Education auditorium. The performance is part of UW's World Music Series.

A member of the Larrakia Nation (the traditional Darwin landowners in Australia's Northern Territory), Dargan is an ambassador of his culture through his music, storytelling and live performances, says Rod Garnett, UW professor of music.

"He has pushed the boundaries of contemporary world music for the last eight years," Garnett says. "Dargan's distinct blend of Australian indigenous and contemporary world music captures the essence of one of the oldest cultures on earth and transcends the boundaries of time."

Dargan creates a living rhythmical dialogue between the didgeridoo and the sounds of the Australian outback. The sounds are layered seamlessly into live performances creating what Dargan calls his "Eco/Tribal living pulse" of Australia.

UW Cultural Outreach and the UW Department of Music sponsor the World Music Series. For more information, call Garnett at (307) 766-2512 or e-mail rgarnett@uwyo.edu.
