March 22, 2007 -- More than 93 percent of University of Wyoming students report being pleased with the education they are receiving at UW, according to the results of surveys administered to students in 2006.

Every two years, UW joins hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide in surveying students about their satisfaction with the schools they attend. This year, UW participated in surveys conducted by ACT -- the people who administer the pre-college test favored in the western United States -- and educational consultants Noel Levitz.

Last year UW also administered a third opinion survey about processes and procedures at the university, developed by its offices of student affairs and academic affairs.

Among the most interesting findings in the Noel Levitz survey are measurements that place UW above and below the national mean with some degree of statistical significance.

Areas on the surveys where students rank UW significantly above the national average include students' sense of belonging here, the feeling of having an enjoyable experience as a UW student, a sense of feeling made welcome at UW, the ability of UW students to experience intellectual growth, a campus commitment to academic excellence, knowledgeableness and approachability of academic advisers who are concerned about student success, and adequacy and accessibility of computer labs.

UW students also ranked the university above the national average for accuracy of admissions representation of UW life, satisfaction with the sense of school spirit and UW's athletics facilities, library services, use of mass transit services, recreational and intramural services, residence hall food services, student health services, the quality of the Wyoming Union, knowledge about what's happening on campus, the quality of laboratory facilities and study areas, campus safety and security, assistance from non-teaching staff, and the level of tuition charged at UW.

Only a few areas found UW significantly below the national mean, including the ability to register for classes with few conflicts, possibly the result of the implementation of a new Web-based registration system; day care services; parking facilities -- a consistent finding since the survey began, though satisfaction has more than doubled since 1994; and diversity on campus.
