Western Underground to Perform at UW Homecoming

Printable ArticleEmail this Article

Oct. 2, 2007 -- Western Underground, band of the late country singer Chris LeDoux, will return to the University of Wyoming Friday, Oct. 12, to close Homecoming Week with a free concert.

Local group The Younger Brothers Band will open the show, which starts at 9 p.m. in the UW Fieldhouse following the pep rally in War Memorial Stadium.

"Last time Western Underground was here with Chris LeDoux, it was an amazing show when more than 3,000 people came," says Elizabeth Atwood, chair of the Concerts and Convocations (C&C) Committee. "Since the Homecoming theme this year is ‘All American Cowboy,' we're excited to bring back a homegrown Wyoming group with a great sound to help us celebrate the week."

After 16 years playing with Kaycee native Chris LeDoux, Western Underground, which describes its sound as "driving, rodeo rock-and-roll," is beginning to forge its own identity while still paying tribute to LeDoux, who died in 2005 from a rare form of cancer.

"We wanted to do mostly dad's songs for the first year or so, but still give the audience a taste of our own music too," says Ned LeDoux, one of two drummers with the band.

The concert is sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming, C&C and Homecoming committees and UW Athletics.
