UPDATE: Craig Arnold Search - Noon, May 2

May 2, 2009  -- The Wyoming congressional delegation is following developments regarding missing University of Wyoming professor Craig Arnold.

The search for missing University of Wyoming assistant professor Craig Arnold continues this weekend on the Japanese island of Kuchinoerabu-jima in the country's northern Ryukyu Islands. 

Both Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso have contacted the U.S. Embassy requesting the search continue past Sunday, which is the end of the second three-day search period, if Craig has not been found.

Mark Baron, the consular officer for the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka, traveled to the island Friday and will work with Japanese authorities to coordinate the search. He will also provide updates to Arnold's family.

The consular staff has also assisted Arnold's brother, Chris, with travel arrangements to Japan and will be on-site to offer assistance upon his arrival.

The search for Craig Arnold has included Japanese police, local inhabitants, search dogs and a helicopter.

The offices of U.S. Sens. Barrasso and Enzi and Rep. Lummis contacted the State Department for assistance.

Sen. John Barrasso has been in contact with the U.S. Consulate in Tokyo and discussed the matter with them.

Consular staff is on site and is monitoring the progress of the search and  providing regular updates to the senator's office.
