UW Lecture Examines Educational Barriers for Latinos

Oct. 29, 2009 -- Overcoming educational barriers for Latina/Latino youths will be the subject of a talk Monday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Union East Ballroom.

University of Utah Professor Dolores Delgado Bernal will discuss "Community Engaged Scholarship with Latina/o Youth and Families: Crossing Educational, Community, and Discursive Borders."

"My research examines ways to improve the educational experiences of students of color," says Bernal.

Author of the book "Chicana/Latina Education in Everyday Life: Feminista Perspectives on Pedagogy and Epistemology," Bernal has also written journal articles in Social Justice, Harvard Educational Review and Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies.

The lecture is sponsored by Chicano Studies Program, Social Justice Research Center, MEChA and Sigma Lambda Gamma.
