By Diana M. Waggener -- At the UW Staff Senate monthly meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14, Joe Montelongo, interim director of Human Resources, reported that all revisions to the UW Employee Handbook have been made and reviewed by the Office of General Counsel. Montelongo and Doug Vinzant, vice president for administration, will review the document before releasing it to the UW Staff Senate Compensation Committee. At that point, Staff Senate members can review changes and share information with UW staff members. Vinzant reported that Information Technology consolidation is under way, and will continue over the course of a year. The speed at which consolidation will occur is not certain. No positions will be lost, and savings will occur as a result of attrition and making certain that all units subscribe to the same Internet service. Vinzant also discussed accounting consolidation. He gathered information from other institutions, and will attend a meeting to collect input of business officers in larger western universities. In addition, UW college business managers will be involved in the planning process. This initiative is currently on the back-burner, but as the project takes shape, more information will be available to the UW community. UW Staff Senate continues to plan for participation in the Holiday Market, Dec. 3-4, in the Wyoming Union. UW Staff Senate will host a silent auction to raise funds for Senate activities and events, including Staff Recognition Day. For more information about UW Staff Senate's involvement with the Holiday Market, e-mail Finances and Fundraising Committee Chair Stacy Lane, UW Admissions (seat number 13), at slane6@uwyo.edu. UW Staff Senate President Chris Clements congratulated the senators who participated in the UW Homecoming parade. The Staff Senate float won the sweepstakes prize for small float best fitting the UW Homecoming theme. Participants were: Stacy Lane; Jamie LeJambre, College of Arts and Sciences (seat number 5); Kelly McMicheal, Paint Shop (seat number 25); and Lou Ann Chakmakian, senior office assistant for UW Staff Senate. All UW staff members can attend senate meetings and share concerns and ideas with their senators. A list of current senators and the units they represent, official meeting minutes, committee reports and upcoming events can be found on the UW Staff Senate Web site at www.uwyo.edu/StaffSenate/. The next full-senate meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 1:15 p.m., in the Senate Chambers of the Wyoming Union. Jim King, Department of Political Science, will be the guest speaker. For more information, call the Staff Senate Office at 766-5300 or e-mail staffsen@uwyo.edu.
