Nov. 4, 2009 -- Wyoming Public Radio has expanded its coverage to residents in Rawlins, Saratoga, Sinclair, Encampment and beyond. KUWI-FM is the newest addition to the statewide Wyoming Public Radio network from the University of Wyoming. Broadcasting on 89.9 FM and with 2,000 watts, KUWI represents a ten-fold increase in broadcast power from the long time WPR translator. Jon Schwartz, WPR general manager, says many sources contributed funding for KUWI including the Wyoming State Legislature, Carbon County School District #1 Recreation Board, Carbon County School District #2 Recreation Board, the Rawlins National Bank, the Bank of Commerce and many individual donors in Saratoga and Rawlins. "We also thank Dr. Jeff Sweet and Jon Brown for their efforts in making KUWI a reality," Schwartz says. Wyoming Public Radio is a service of the University of Wyoming, since 1966. With approximately 60,000 listeners weekly, WPR is Wyoming's National Public Radio news source. It features nationally recognized statewide news and public affairs coverage as well as weekend music entertainment and popular programs such as "Car Talk," "A Prairie Home Companion," "Ranch Breakfast" and "This American Life."
