Sept. 27, 2004 -- Ways that sustainability can increase profits of Wyoming businesses is the topic of an Oct. 28 symposium at the University of Wyoming.

The "SEE (Sustainable Entrepreneurial Economy) Your Future" conference is from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC), with its main office on the UW campus, the UW College of Business and the William D. Ruckelshaus Institute and the School of Environment and Natural Resources sponsor the event.

The symposium is part of the SBDC 10-year celebration, "For 10 years...inventing tomorrow by serving Wyoming business today." During the past decade, the SBDC has served more than 20,000 clients, who injected into Wyoming's economy more than $96,000 million.

"SEE Your Future" registration costs $45, or $15 for students, and includes lunch and breaks. To register, call UW Conferences and Institute at 1-800-733-3618 or 766-2124. For complete conference details visit the Web site at www.uwyo.edu/sbdc.

Several national speakers are scheduled including John Renesch, who wrote "Getting to the Better Future: A Matter of Conscious Choosing"; Michael Shuman, attorney, economist and vice president for enterprise development for the Training and Development Corporation of Buksport, Maine; Renee Moorefield, writer and founder of "Wisdom Works," which promotes progressive thinking and practices for sustainable business success; and Hillary Mizia with the New Belgium Brewery of Fort Collins, Colo.

Following the symposium a reception to celebrate the SBDC's 10-year anniversary is at 5:30 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.

The SBDC, a partnership of the Small Business Administration, the Wyoming Business Council and UW, strengthens Wyoming businesses and entrepreneurs by providing management assistance and educational programs and resources to create economic growth. SBDC regional directors provide low-cost educational forums and one-on-one counseling at no cost to participating businesses. Professional assistance is offered in areas such as planning, management, marketing, finance and other business activities.
