Omaha, Nebraska, native Melvin Cox is senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Sun Chemical Corporation. Prior to his position as senior vice president, he served as vice president (1997-2004). From 1996 to 2004, he worked as managing director of Sun Chemical B.V. in Soest, the Netherlands. He previously held the same position in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

After earning a law degree from Harvard University in 1972, Cox worked as an adjunct professor in engineering law at The Cooper Union in New York City (1984-1991).

He has since become a member of the UW Campus Advisory Board, the Collections Committee, and the UW Art Museum. He is also a trustee of the UW Foundation and a member of the College of Arts and Sciences Board of Visitors.

He currently resides in Edgewater, New Jersey.
