Sullivan participated in Alpha Tau Omega and ASUW while attending UW.

Sullivan was given the UW Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998 and honorary membership in the Order of the Coif, the national legal honorary in UW College of Law, in 1999. He was inducted into the UW College of Engineering Hall of Fame in 2002.

Omaha, Nebraska, native Michael J. Sullivan was Wyoming governor from 1987 until 1995. The following year, Sullivan held a fellowship at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. 

He was the U.S. ambassador to Ireland from 1998 until 2001, under the Clinton and Bush administrations. He is currently a partner at the law firm Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons LLP, which has offices in Casper and Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Denver. An accomplished trial lawyer, Sullivan focuses on areas such as public policy, natural resources law, and international business development. He has been admitted to practice before the Wyoming State Supreme Court, the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Sullivan has stayed actively involved with the University of Wyoming. He is a life member of the UW Alumni Association, a member of the Campus Advisory Board, and chairman of the W.D. Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources Board.

Sullivan earned a B.S. in petroleum engineering (1961) and a law degree (1964) from UW.

The Sullivan family was named Wyoming Family of the Year by Associated Parents of UW in 1999. The Sullivans reside in Casper, Wyoming. Click here to read more about Michael Sullivan.
