Brent Eastman joined Scripps Health in 1984 as director of trauma services at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California, and was appointed chief medical officer of Scripps Health in 1998.

His leadership training began at the Univeristy of Wyoming in 1962, when he was elected student body president. He completed a B.S. in zoology and physiology at UW in 1962, and went on to receive his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco.

Eastman was chair of the Committee on Trauma for the American College of Surgeons from 1990 to 1994, and has been active in helping develop trauma systems all over the world. He has held numerous leadership roles, including acting as chairman of the Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control.
