After his graduation from UW in 1984, David Brooks left for Asia, an area of the world where he had also spent much of his childhood. The son of a U.S. Foreign Service officer, Brooks grew up in Nepal and China, and was fluent in Mandarin Chinese by the time he was 14.

In 1988, Brooks was hired by Coca-Cola. He is now Coca-Cola China's project manager for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, when the company will provide Coke to more than 10,000 athletes and millions of spectators. In the meantime, Brooks was able to earn his M.B.A. from Solvay Ecole de Commerce (Solvay Business School) at Belgium's Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1993.

No stranger to the Olympics, Brooks was the director of the Athens 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, which saw the Olympic torch circumnavigate the globe for the first time in history, traveling 54,000 miles and carried by 11,000 torchbearers.

Brooks and his wife, Patricia, have two sons.
