Dave Freudenthal became the 31st governor of Wyoming in 2003 and was re-elected to a second term in 2006. His career began in 1973 after graduating from Amherst College (Massachusetts) with a B.S. in economics, when he took a position as an economist for the state of Wyoming. He then worked for the governor's office in the late 1970s while simultaneously earning his law degree from UW.
Freudenthal spent 16 years in private practice before serving for eight years, 1994 to 2001, as the U.S. attorney for Wyoming.
He was the founding director of the Wyoming Student Loan Corporation and was instrumental in the creation of the Hathaway Scholarship program. This provides state tuition assiatance for Wyoming high-school graduates, allowing the students to pursue further studies at any college or university within Wyoming.
Freudenthal and his wife, Nancy, also an attorney, have four children.
