Jan. 23, 2002 -- University of Wyoming graduate student Sarah Konrad, who won three national road cycling championships in May, was named last week to the 2001 National Collegiate Cycling Association (NCCA) All America squad.
She is among 56 student athletes, in four categories of competition, who were named to the squad. Konrad, who earned her Ph.D. degree in geology this fall, was named in the Road Racing category for capturing the Division II Omnium (the combined placings in the women's road race and criterium, both of which Konrad won at the national championships). Other racing categories represented on the NCCA squad are Mountain Bike, Cyclo cross, and Track.
UW races in Division II based on the size of its cycling teams, not on the size of the school's enrollment.
Overall, the NCCA comprises 174 member institutions and more than 2,400 riders. The NCCA All America teams are chosen annually at the conclusion of the national collegiate championships.
