May 30, 2002 -- New technologies to connect rural communities to the Web and promote business development in Wyoming will be the focus of the 2002 Wyoming Technology Summit to be held Friday, June 14, at 8 a.m. at the University of Wyoming's Rochelle Athletics Center.
The program, "Technologies for Rural America Connecting Communities, Government, and Business in Wyoming," will feature several leaders discussing a range of issues involving advances in wireless and other technologies, and delivery of business, government and personal services.
This event is open to the public. Pre registration is requested by visiting the Web site at www.uwyo.edu/e biz, calling (307) 766 6902, or sending an e-mail to e biz@uwyo.edu. If calling or responding by e-mail, please provide name, affiliation, and number of guests. Lunch will be served for $5.
Among the scheduled speakers are Gov. Jim Geringer; Ron McCue, vice president, Silver Star Communications; Bill Beans, president and CEO, SwitchPoint Networks, Inc.; and Dave Crum, president and CEO, Crum Electric Supply Company. The day's activities will conclude with a gubernatorial candidates' roundtable where the candidates will discuss their agendas for Wyoming's technology future. A reception follows the roundtable.
The productive use of technology can stimulate Wyoming's participation in the new economy, says Kenton Walker, director of the Center for e.Business in the UW College of Business.
"Businesses are attracted to states that invest in technology infrastructure and literacy," Walker says. "This effort also serves to create the expectation within the public and business that technology will be used routinely. New wireless and other technologies hold great promise for bridging the digital divide at an affordable cost and promoting economic growth and diversity in Wyoming."
The University of Wyoming College of Business and the Solomon D. Trujillo Center for e.Business host this event. The Center for e.Business was established in 2000 by a gift from Solomon D. Trujillo, president and CEO, Graviton, Inc., and his wife Corine. The center houses the Master of Science in e.Business degree program and is dedicated to educate a new generation of technology savvy business managers, consultants and entrepreneurs.
