Sept. 3, 2002 -- The University of Wyoming will host its 12th annual Family Weekend celebration Oct. 4 6. Co sponsored by the Associated Parents -- University of Wyoming and the Division of Student Affairs, Family Weekend offers parents and families an opportunity to learn more about and become more involved in their students' UW experiences.
"Family Weekend 2001 was a great experience," says Crystal Sandberg of Gering, Neb. "You see the kids, see how they're living, eat where they eat, and enjoy visiting with other parents. I remember a great barbecue, then walking over together to the football game it was a really nice weekend. I think UW works hard to keep parents connected. It's appreciated!"
Events planned for this year's weekend include the Keith and Thyra Thomson College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation Friday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. in the A&S auditorium. Carol Tome, executive vice president and chief financial officer of The Home Depot, is the keynote speaker. The world beat band JAKA performs Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the A&S auditorium.
Saturday features an informal coffee with UW President Philip Dubois at 8:15 a.m. in the Wyoming Union, followed by a campus resource fair and breakfast with the UW deans. Family Weekend participants also are invited to attend the grand opening of the renovated Wyoming Union at 11 a.m.
Saturday afternoon activities include choice of the UW vs. Citadel football game, a Vedauwoo hike, or a UW Art Museum tour; followed by dinner and entertainment Saturday night and a Sunday brunch hosted by Lisa and Philip Dubois.
