Nov. 10, 2003 -- B. Carl Lee, honors graduate from the University of Wyoming College of Business, will be the featured speaker Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Wyoming $10K Entrepreneurship Competition student mixer.
Lee will speak in the Solomon D. Trujillo Center for e.Business, Room 103 of the College of Business building. The $10K competition encourages UW students to act on their talent, ideas and energy to produce tomorrow's leading firms. Student teams design and present business ideas to a panel of judges. The competition is open to all currently registered, full-time UW students at all levels of education and from any department.
Teams submit a business plan for a new venture that shows business potential. A team of judges reviews and comments on all entries in the competition. In the spring, the winning team is awarded $5,000 -- half of the total prize. The team is then given the summer to use the award to take the business further. In the fall, the team submits a progress report and explains to the judges how it used the first $5,000. If the judges determine that the money is used wisely, the second prize is awarded.
Students and interested faculty are welcome to attend the mixer. Refreshments will be available and reservations are requested by calling (307) 766-5505 or email kenyeart@uwyo.edu
Lee, managing director of an investment company, Front Range Business Ventures, LLC, has been involved in the start-up of six businesses the past two years. He also is the CEO of GO Manage, Inc., a start-up software company in Fort Collins, Colo., and CFO of Brocade Communications Systems, Inc., a company he founded in 1995.
Lee earned a B.S. (1972) in accounting from UW, and serves on the UW Foundation Board of Directors and the College of Business Advisory Council. Lee and his wife, Marcia, grew up in Riverton and currently reside in Fort Collins.
