Alan Simpson to Speak at UW's Torchlight Laurels |

April 29, 2003 -- Retired U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson will be the guest speaker during the University of Wyoming's 51st annual Torchlight Laurels ceremony Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.
Torchlight Laurels honors more than 300 students for academic excellence, service and leadership. Scholastic awards, service organization recognition, class honorary presentations and special awards will be included in the program.
Special honors include the Tobin Award to the outstanding male graduating senior and the Spitaleri Award to the outstanding female graduating senior, based on scholarly achievement and service in extracurricular activities.
Among those honored are the senior members of the University Honors Program; Mortar Board, senior class honorary; Iron Skull, junior class service honorary; Cardinal Key, the national junior class honor society; Spurs, the sophomore class honor society; and Golden Key international honor society.
Special awards include Greek Man and Greek Woman of the Year; the Margaret C. Tobin Scholarship; James C. Hurst Scholarship, (for a participant in the Minority Student Leadership Initiative); the Charlotte H. Davis Scholarship (for a freshman senator); Jason Thompson Commitment to Diversity Awards; ASUW Senator of the Year, Freshman Senator of the Year, and Committee of the Year.
Athletes receiving the Mountain West Conference academic all-conference designation, Student Publications editors and top scholarship recipients also will be recognized.
