Programs at the UW Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing are approved by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.

UW FWWSON Accreditation History

BSN Program

  • Fall of 1951: Admitted 1st BSN Program class
  • 1952: The National League for Nursing (NLN) first site visit
  • 1952: Temporary NLN accreditation awarded for new program
  • 1955: Initial accreditation from NLN 1955
  • 1957: Full NLN accreditation awarded
  • 1957-2001: Maintained full accreditation for BSN program through NLN
  • 1978: RN/BSN Program approved and funded by the State Legislature
  • 2001: Moved from NLN to Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation. Full accreditation awarded for 10 years
  • 2008: BRAND - admitted first students in May 2008 (two pilot cohorts admitted in 2006 & 2007)
  • Fall 2010: Next CCNE site accreditation visit
  • May 2011: CCNE grants full 10-year accreditation to baccalaureate and masters nursing programs through June 30, 2021
  • October 2019: CCNE grants full 10-year accreditation to baccalaureate, master's and DNP program through December 31, 2029
  • MS Program
  • 1980: Admitted 1st MS Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) class
  • 1985: 1st NLN site visit granted full accreditation to the MS Program
  • 1985-2001: Maintained full accreditation for MS program through NLN
  • 2000: Nurse Educator admitted first students in Fall
  • 2001: Moved from NLN to Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation. Full accreditation awarded for 10 years.
  • 2006: Psych NP program admitted first students (CCNE notified in 2005 through five year progress report)
  • Fall 2010: Next CCNE site accreditation visit
  • May 2011: CCNE grants full 10-year accreditation to baccalaureate and masters nursing programs
  • October 2019: CCNE grants full 10-year accreditation to baccalaureate, master's and DNP program through December 31, 2029
  • DNP Program
  • 2014: CCNE makes on-site evaluation for initial accreditation of the DNP program March 26-28, 2014
  • 2014: November, 2014 official notice received from CCNE granting full accreditation to the University of Wyoming Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
  • October 2019: CCNE grants full 10-year accreditation to baccalaureate, master's and DNP program through December 31, 2029
