University of Wyoming faculty and students work with "preceptors" - nurses who mentor our students in a variety of clinical settings. In 2010 our school introduced a new award to recognize preceptors, especially those who go above and beyond. Students will nominate preceptors for this award from each of our programs annually.

Below are the comments written about Daniel by the student she precepted this past year:
"Jean Daniel, nursing supervisor, made each week of clinical a learning experience: I have been able to support a complex family and follow up on a care plan consistently; I have worked in three different schools to participate in a school nurses day, and to learn how these nurses care for diabetic children; Jean arranged for me to shadow in the county dental clinic, and provided my family with tickets to a community program called "Breakfast with the tooth fairy"; I have observed a 'free car seat check and installation clinic'; I have also been highly involved in the health department's well child and general health clinic. My experiences this semester have been priceless, from presenting my service learning project at the local senior center and to the senior center director to going into my first Amish home for a home visit as a result of positive lead testing. I truly can't think of a better way to recognize the Medina County Health Department and Jean for the outstanding experiences they have provided. Jean and her entire staff made me feel welcome everyday, and I will truly miss not going to clinical. I have a great respect for public health nurses and believe Jean should be commended for her excellence in leadership and mentoring. Thank You."
