DNP Program 2014 Community Partner: Platte River Family Practice, LLC

Since opening their doors in 2009, Platte River Family Practice [a nurse-owned and -managed clinic in Casper] has provided outstanding patient-centered primary care to Casper-area residents. According to the UW Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program Coordinator Ann Marie Hart, Platte River Family Practice has gone above and beyond to provide individualized precepting experiences to family nurse practitioner students in both the former Master’s and the current DNP programs at the UW FWWSON. Advanced Practice Nursing Award: Julie Hummer-Bellmyer

In 2012, a year before the UW DNP program began, Hummer-Bellmyer contacted faculty, volunteering to teach orthopedic skills to students—an unusual offering from a non-UW graduate and busy professional. So for the past two years, she and her FNP colleague at the Cheyenne VAMC, Denise Kurtis, have delivered a hands-on orthopedic workshop during first-year students’ intensive week of advanced health assessment.
