2015 Convocation Speaker Announced

Shawn Snyder, DNP Candidate

Shawn Snyder, RN, BSN, DNP Candidate, will be the Convocation speaker at the 2015 Nursing Convocation Ceremony scheduled as follows:

  • Nursing Convocation

  • Friday, May 15, 2015

  • 12:30 p.m.

  • Arts & Sciences Auditorium

Shawn Snyder is one of the twelve 2015 DNP candidates from the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at the University of Wyoming Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing. Snyder's class will be the first to graduate from the new DNP program.

Snyder's Convocation Speech:

"The UW School of Nursing chose Snyder for the honor of delivering the Convocation message," says DNP Program coordinator Ann Marie Hart, "due to the excellence he demonstrated throughout the program--excellence in academia, scholarship, clinical practice, professionalism and leadership."

Snyder gives a preview of his upcoming address: "I plan to honor the 2015 graduates on their tremendous achievement and will discuss the many opportunities that now present to them, given the diverse nature of the nursing field."

Snyder continues: "No matter what practice setting they choose, I want to encourage our graduates to continue to contribute positively to the nursing profession by being innovative in their approach and by constantly striving to provide the best care possible. I want to discuss the term, disruptive innovation, which is used to describe an approach to process improvement that challenges norms and facilitates positive change."

Snyder has a great vision for this first class of UW DNP Graduates: "I have no doubt that these graduates will contribute significantly to the health and wellness of those they encounter, but will also be excellent representatives of our profession and will lead the way toward a brighter future."

Shawn Snyder is a Wyoming native originally from Weston, a rural ranching community in northeastern Wyoming. He obtained a degree in nursing from Casper College in 2008 and then completed his BSN through the University of Wyoming in 2011.

Snyder initially practiced as a registered nurse in the intensive care setting, but has worked in leadership and management at a surgical specialty hospital in Casper for the last three years. "I plan to remain in Wyoming following graduation," says Snyder, "and hope to practice in the primary care setting."

Snyder is a member of both the Sigma Theta Tau and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.
