Psych Nursing

J'Laine "Jill" Proctor, RN, FNP, PMHNP, DNP

  • BSN '00

  • MS FNP '03

  • MS PMHNP '08

What drew you to this career?

I am fascinated by the body and more specifically the human brain. I have always been interested in the sciences and love to learn. I am one of those that enjoys going to school and being part of the ever-changing fields of medicine and nursing. I was not one of those that knew I wanted to be a nurse my whole life; it just sort of happened to me, but I couldn't be happier that fate landed me in this career.

How did you prepare for it?

I went to a lot of school, enjoyed school, was disciplined, and didn't forget to live life and have fun along the way.

What do you like the most about this career?

The flexibility.

What are the biggest challenges?

Having patients with mental illness that you care about and care for is challenging. At times it is hard separating work from my life outside of work.

What advice would you have for a student interested in this field?

Go for it! You will never regret it.
