Linda Williams Honored

2014 Innovation in Teaching Award

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) recognized Linda Williams, associate lecturer in nursing, for her fascination with and use of technology in on-line instruction. The following text was read about Williams in presentation of the 2014 Innovation in Teaching Award at the annual CHS awards ceremony this spring:

Williams' nominator states that she is an "earlier adopter" and has explored a variety of technology applications to optimize her teaching and her students' learning. For example, she incorporated "Vokis" into her on-line courses as a way to more fully engage students. Early on she jumped at the chance to use on-line technologies in her teaching and has become a master on-line teacher. Moreover, she has been a mentor to a multitude of full-time and part-time faculty in on-line teaching and the use of technology.

Another faculty member states, "Her approach to course development includes innovative methods, especially as they relate to technology. Student learning activities result in exposure to both content and methodologies. She has the ability to envision the totality of a course and direct learning activities so that it becomes a cohesive whole, rather than separate units. The positive student evaluations are testimony to her creativity."
