When deciding on a future career, I was immediately drawn to nursing. Many of my family members are nurses, and it has always appealed to me. I look forward to working in the medical field, but I also am excited about all the different job opportunities. Although there are many different branches of nursing, I am most interested in working as a labor and delivery or pediatric nurse. In the past I have taught preschool and mommy-and-me swim lessons. I love interacting with and helping mothers and children.
I was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, so--obviously--coming to UW was a big change for me. Upon visiting UW, I felt welcomed and comfortable in the campus environment. I was also very excited about the Basic BSN Freshman Admit program. I was eager to apply and be accepted as a nursing major so early in my college career. Not only does the freshman admit program reassure my goals, but it put me in direct contact with the nursing staff here at the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing.
Being accepted into the Basic BSN freshman admit program allowed me to attend social events that not only helped me to meet my fellow students, but also my future teachers. Meeting the staff and hearing about their involvement in the college really inspired me to find my place in the program. Upon hearing about Aspire, I was very interested in the opportunities it would offer. Not only am I given the tools I need to better myself, but I can improve the school and workplace environments in which I’m a part.

My senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to complete a teaching internship. I interned with one of my former teachers at Prairie Junior High School and assisted her in her 7th grade science classes. My duties included preparing class supplies, creating class bulletin boards, and creating and teaching lesson plans.
My goal is to become a labor and delivery or pediatric nurse after graduating from UW. Along with beginning my career, I look forward to traveling, spending time with my family, and eventually beginning one of my own.
