I have always been extremely interested in the medical field, and even from a very young age I knew I was going to be involved in a profession that was based upon helping others. During middle school, my grandpa broke his hip, which eventually led to his move into a nursing care facility. As I began to visit my grandpa, I was drawn to the role that the nurses played in his care. I began volunteering at the home and absolutely loved the interactions I had with the other residents. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be a nurse and work with older adults.
When I was deciding which college I was going to attend, I first started by doing lots of research for nursing schools online. I came across UW and knew I had to take a tour and see the school for myself. I visited Laramie with my parents on a nursing program visit day and quickly became excited about my future as a Cowboy. I fell in love with the town and knew the nursing program would be a great fit for me!
After hearing about the Aspire program, I knew I wanted to get involved. I was very active in sports and clubs throughout high school and served in leadership positions there. I knew Aspire would be a great way to further develop my leadership skills. I loved the idea of getting connected with other nursing students and professors who all shared a common passion for nursing and leadership.

After I developed an interest working with older adults, I began volunteering in the activity centers at nursing homes in my area. I really loved the interactions I had with the residents, staff, and medical professionals. This drew me to become a CNA in a care center, where I was able to work alongside nurses and observe their role in patient care.
My passion is working with the elderly so I would like to begin my career as a nurse working in a skilled nursing facility or an assisted living. I would also like to spend time after graduation volunteering as a nurse overseas. I absolutely love to travel and can’t think of a better way to use the skills I will have learned to help those in need. After a few years of working, I would like to return to school to become a gerontological nurse practitioner. Overall, I couldn’t be more excited for my future as a nurse!
