Basic BSN Admission

Freshman Admission to Nursing Major

Priority Admissions

For priority admission consideration, prospective students must apply to the University of Wyoming by December 1 prior to the fall semester they are seeking university admission. Applications received by the December 1 priority deadline will be reviewed by the School of Nursing in January. Acceptance to the University of Wyoming does not guarantee acceptance to the Basic BSN Program.

The four minimum criteria for priority admission are:

  • 3.6 cumulative, unweighted high school grade point average (GPA)

  • 23 ACT math score

  • 23 ACT science score

  • 27 ACT composite score

Meeting the four minimum criteria does not guarantee admittance to the Basic BSN Program as a freshman.

Additional Admission Review

Additional reviews by the School of Nursing will occur throughout the spring and summer for applicants applying after the December 1 priority admission deadline. Consideration will be based upon space availability for the program. Applicants who do not meet the minimum math and science ACT scores will not be considered for freshman admission to the major.

For students who are not accepted into nursing as a freshman, their major will be "general undeclared" unless another major is chosen. Students not admitted as freshmen do have the option of applying for any unfilled seats in the Basic BSN program following completion of pre-clinical courses. Students interested in non-freshmen admission are welcome to visit the Basic BSN advising office to ensure they are taking the appropriate pre-clinical courses. (Check out non-freshman admission page.)

Key Points

  • As part of the university application, applicants select Basic BSN Pre-Nursing (PNRS) as their major in order to be included in the School of Nursing review.

  • All application and admission notifications by the School of Nursing are made through email. No hardcopy mailings are sent out to applicants regarding admission status. Some notifications have response deadlines.

  • Applicants submit a non-UW email address as requested on UW application.

  • Some notifications will be sent through the UW email once it has been activated following payment of the UW Confirmation Fee.

  • Applicants should monitor both UW and non-UW emails for notifications from the School of Nursing regarding admission status.
