Basic BSN Getting Started --
Pre-Nursing/Application Process

*A transfer student is a student who has college or university credits that they would like to transfer to the University of Wyoming.

1. Declaring Pre-Nursing

   Students need to meet certain criteria to declare a pre-nursing major at the UW School of Nursing. Click for that information: Admission Criteria/Declaring Pre-Nursing.

2. BSN Program Scholastic Requirements

   Students need to meet the BSN Program Scholastic Requirements as part of the expectations for potentially declaring Nursing as their major as well as staying within those requirements throughout completion of the program. Click for that information:  BSN Program Scholastic Requirements.

3. Initiate a Transcript Evaluation

   ... to see if courses taken will transfer, and to find out what courses are still needed as prerequisite to the Basic BSN program. Read about how to initiate the evaluation, where to have transcripts sent, what payment is required and also find the transcript evaluation request form by going to the Admission Criteria/Declaring Pre-Nursing page.

4. Advising

   Visit with a nursing advisor (e-mail basicbsn@uwyo.edu or call 307-766-4292) to plan classes or to discuss career planning. Also ask UW Admissions (see #5 below) about student orientations, during which there is an opportunity to counsel with an advisor.

6. Prerequisites (Courses needed prior to acceptance into the Basic BSN Program)

That page will list the prerequisite courses students need to take the first two-three years, and then shows the remaining courses that students take if accepted into the program.

7. Admission Criteria

   ...for admission to the nursing major component (last two years) of the Basic BSN option (click the link to go to the Admission Criteria/Application to the Major). This page gives students an idea as to what the school looks at in the nursing application process for students ready to seek admission potential into the nursing major component of the Basic BSN option. Information is updated yearly, so students should check it periodically to see what may have changed in regards to any expectations for that process for the year in which they are seeking to apply.

Make a date for a tour with the UW Admissions Pre-College Student Visit Programs Office by calling them at 307-766-4075, coming to their office at 106 Knight Hall, or setting up an appointment online from their web site at www.uwyo.edu/uw/visitors.
