BRAND Getting Started - Application Process, Application, Admission Criteria

The accelerated program is intended to capitalize on your previous studies and education while providing you with an opportunity to obtain a second bachelor's degree in nursing in a ‘summer to summer' format. This accelerated option will be an intensive curriculum focusing on didactic and clinical nursing education.

Admission Criteria:

  • Previous Baccalaureate Degree

    Entry into the BRAND program requires students to have a completed baccalaureate degree prior to application to the program with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

  • Non-U.S. Citizens

    Non-U.S. citizens must submit TOEFL results (90 iBT total score with no component less than 21).

    Interviews of BRAND applicants are held in Laramie, Wyoming. No exceptions will be made.

  • Prerequisite Coursework - updated 4/26/2011

    Students should have all prerequisites by the end of fall semester prior to the summer in which they are seeking admission. Those students who use the spring semester to complete prerequisites should understand that their application will be reviewed, but those who have courses completed by December will have priority.

    There are prerequisite courses that must be successfully completed prior to starting this program (currently, there is no time limit on the required courses noted below if you have had them in your previous bachelor's degree). "Successfully completed" means that you must have a C or better in all required courses, and a 2.75 minimum grade point average (GPA) for those courses. Please be advised that this does not guarantee admission.

    PHCY 4450 (Pathophysiology) - 4 credit hours
    KIN 2040 and KIN 2041 (Anatomy lecture and lab) - 4 credit hours
    KIN/ZOO 3115 (Physiology) - 4 credit hours
    MOLB 2240 (Medical Microbiology) - 4 credit hours
    PSYC 1000 (General Psychology) - 3 credit hours
    FCSC 1140 or FCSC 1141 (Nutrition) - 2-3 credit hours

  • Active CNA Certification or LPN Licensure

    • If you have current CNA Certification or LPN Licensure, include a photocopy in the application packet.

    • If you do not have current CNA Certification, then note on the online application your plans for completing that certification. Note: if proof of state board of nursing certification is not presented by May 1, any provisional acceptance to the BRAND Program will be revoked.

    • CNA certification from any state will be accepted, but must be good through December 31, 2013.

  • Personal Essays

    You will write a one-page essay for each of 2 questions asked on the application packet page of this site.

  • Three recommendation forms addressing adult learner capabilities

    These forms are linked on our application packet site for you to download.

  • Interview

    The interviews will be held on the Laramie, Wyoming campus in February/March.No exceptions will be made.
