BSN Program Scholastic Requirements
University and College of Health Sciences policies governing scholastic requirements, including major changes, probation and dismissal, apply to students enrolled in the School of Nursing. In addition to university/college requirements, the School of Nursing has the following scholastic requirements:
Grade of at least a C in all required courses.
Prerequisites must be met with C or better prior to entering each nursing course.
A cumulative Nursing G.P.A. (NGPA) of 2.75 (Basic BSN and BRAND) or 2.50 (RN/BSN) based on required courses is the minimum required for admission to the nursing major.
Students must attain a 2.00 (C) or S in each nursing course, as well as a cumulative Nursing G.P.A. (NGPA) of 2.75 (Basic BSN and BRAND) or 2.50 (RN/BSN) based on required courses to progress.
Single prerequisite, requisite, core, or nursing major course may not be repeated more than once.
Total of four prerequisite, requisite, or core courses may be repeated.
Total of two nursing courses in the major may be repeated.
SCHOOL OF NURSING POLICIES:
All nursing theory and combined courses must be taken for a grade.
Clinical courses are graded S/U only.
Students may petition an exception to the same School of Nursing policy only one time.
UW REPEAT POLICY AND HOW IT AFFECTS GPA CALCULATIONS:
UW policy in effect for courses completed prior to Fall 2006:
First repeat: only the second credit and grade is used to calculate the cumulative GPA.
If repeated more than once, the second grade and all subsequent grades together with the grade points of these attempts will enter the computation of the cumulative average.
If a mark of W, S, or U is assigned in a repeated course, the previous grade assigned will stand except when an S or U is earned repeating a previous S or U. (See General Bulletin).
UW policy in effect for courses completed Fall 2006 forward:
Students may repeat course work; however, credit earned in any given course (or equivalent course) is applicable toward a degree requirement only once. All grade entries remain on the student's record, but only the last grade earned will be calculated in the UW cumulative grade point average. (see General Bulletin)
Students with repeated courses completed prior to and/or after fall 2006 may see both variances of the UW repeat policy reflected on their transcript. Courses repeated prior to fall 2006 will remain coded based on the previous policy.
