Communication System

Our primary source of communication with nursing students is through UW email accounts, eCompanion, and WyoWeb nursing groups (Nurse Practitioner students only). Some student contacts may be made by phone or through the U.S. Mail service.

Check & Update Address/Phone

  • Please verify/update your Contact Information through WyoWeb each semester.

  • Please provide your current cell phone number to your program staff support person; keep current information on record with the School of Nursing at all times.

  • You are asked to keep both your mailing/local and permanent address/phone information current at all times on WyoWeb, as the School of Nursing routinely downloads that information from the main UW system into our database system.

  • If both your mailing/local and permanent contact information is the same, you are asked to identify that data within both sections on WyoWeb so that our database file will be updated correctly.

UW Email and WyoWeb Nursing Groups

The University of Wyoming assigned email account shall be one of the official means of communication with all nursing students, faculty, and staff. As a student in our nursing programs you are expected to use this account for all school contacts. As both a student of the University of Wyoming and the School of Nursing you are responsible for all information sent via your University assigned email account as well as any postings through eCompanion or WyoWeb nursing groups (Nurse Practitioner students only).

Students are expected to check their UW email on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with University/School of Nursing-related communications. Students have the responsibility to recognize that certain communications may be time-critical.

Setting up a UW email account

  • UW student email accounts are created automatically and are based upon the student's registration and enrollment status. Once a student is accepted to UW, a username and password are created for them. Because they are not yet a full fee-paying student, this account only has limited access. They can log in to WyoWeb so they can register for classes. After they register for a class, the account is granted additional access, including email and the ability to log in to campus computer labs controlled by Information Technology.

  • New students can get their username and initial password from any computer with access to the Internet. They simply go to the WyoWeb homepage (http://wyoweb.uwyo.edu) and click on the "Get your username and initial password" link, located beneath the boxes for username and password. They will supply information like name, date of birth, W number, or the last 4 digits of their SSN. They will then be given their username and initial password and can log in to WyoWeb immediately. The first time they do so, they will be forced to change their password and answer some security questions in case they lose their password in the future. They're now free to register for courses, use WyoWeb's many other utilities and features, and begin computing at UW.

Accessing your UW e-mail account

  • Access to the UW email account is available through WyoWeb.

  • You may prefer to use a different e-mail provider for non-school activities. Should this be the case, you are asked to not forward your UW e-mail to that provider as this has caused problems for students in not receiving messages sent by the School of Nursing.

    • Students who choose to manually forward mail from their University email accounts are responsible for ensuring that all information, including attachments, is transmitted in its entirety to the preferred account.

    • Additionally, UW recommends that you do not forward your mail to an offsite address as they cannot guarantee security, reliability or usability of any entity not controlled by UW.

  • Over quota: we occasionally have messages bounce back undeliverable due to the student's mailbox being over quota. Be sure to keep your mailbox cleared of unnecessary messages so that does not happen to you.

  • Lapse in Enrollment: If you should decide not to enroll in UW courses aside from Correspondence Study courses, your UW email account will be inactivated as of mid-semester for that given semester. You should still have access to WyoWeb; just not the email until you decide to re-enroll at the university.
