Horsetooth Watershed Data
The contributing area to Horsetooth Reservoir is approximately 40 km2, and the lake surface area at the time was slightly more than 7 km2.
Horsetooth Reservoir rose 36 cm more than it would have due to the 350 cfs inflows from the Colorado Big Thompson project.
It is quite interesting to note that Horsetooth Reservoir protected the Spring Creek watershed in Fort Collins from what would have been much greater flooding. This is a prime example of a water supply reservoir offering flood protection.
