Former UW/CC Center dean Maggi Murdock made people cry; the first UW/CC Center director made them laugh; and then dignitaries shoveled dirt in the wind to mark the official groundbreaking for the new building. Governor Matt Mead joined current UW/CC Center director Brent Pickett, UW president Tom Buchanan, and CC president Walt Nolte as they welcomed the start of a new era in the partnership between the University of Wyoming and Casper College.

The University of Wyoming—Student Union building is currently in the design development stage. Previous rounds of planning determined that the University of Wyoming/Casper College (UW/CC) Center portion will occupy much of the third and fourth floors of the building and that most UW/CC Center classrooms and offices will be consolidated there. The design development stage is where more detailed architectural plans are drafted and reviewed. Currently the building planning committee is considering various options for the building’s exterior, as well as examining how Casper College’s new building plaza (to be located roughly where Robert’s Commons currently stands) will be integrated with the new facility.

The architectural firm hired by Casper College and the University of Wyoming, DLR Group, has presented the schematic design to the Casper College Board of Trustees. On 19 April their board voted to approve the design, contingent on approval by the University of Wyoming.
So the schematic design is largely finalized. What that means is that the basic structure and floor plan of the building is mostly set. Things will undoubtedly get altered a bit as we go through further design stages. Yet how, for instance, the UW/CC Center portion fits together and where it is in the building (and where the building is on campus) are largely set. Just take a look at the drawings to see how the building is laid out!
