CZTS Photovoltaics
The chalcogenide semiconducting compound Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 or CZTS has been shown to have suitable optical and electronic properties for thin-film photovoltaic applications. Unlike current thin film materials, CZTS is composed entirely of earth abundant elements. In the Parkinson group, we focus on synthetic routes that can provide high throughput and low cost production such as Sol-Gel techniques. In order to further improve CZTS, fundamental characterization of annealed films is required as well as control of the CZTS/molybdenum back contact interface. Analytical techniques employed are X-Ray Diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy, and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.
