Nitrogen Containing Graphitic Materials (NCGMs) have been designed from a bottom up approach to generate porous graphite with pores functioanlized with different groups to promote or selectively inhibit ion conductivity through a cast membrane of the materials. This work is done in collaboration with the Hoberg and Li labs for synthesis and ion conductivity measurements, respectively. Ultimately, these materials will be used for water desalination and gas separation utility in industry.
