Chili Cook Off 2012
by Alan Brown
The 2012 Chili Cook Off was hosted for the third year by Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and Phi Delta Chi. Seven groups had entries in the cook off including EWB, Phi Delta Chi, Pi Beta Phi, NCPA, and Phi Delta Theta. NCPA won the cook off and took home a $100 prize. The event raised $300 to support water and healthcare projects in Guatemala.
The School of Pharmacy had a strong showing in the Chili Cook Off with James Britton (P1), Alan Brown (P1), Tracey Le (P3), and Sung Ho (P2) representing Phi Delta Chi; Tsay Lia Yang (P1), Quyen Bui (P1), and Marinell Clinton (P1) representing NCPA; and Christy Mortimer (P1) made one of the two entries from Pi Beta Phi.
Voting for the best chili was done by collecting tickets after the chilies were tasted. The top three groups were: first, NCPA with a beer and bacon chili; second, Pi Beta Phi with a white chili; and third Phi Delta Chi with a traditional ground beef and three bean chili. There was a good attendance to the event, but down slightly from last year. It only cost $5 to taste all the chilies so, the next time you smell chili in the air make your way to Prexy’s Pasture, support some great causes, and taste some great chili!
