June 10, 2014 — University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy faculty Jaime Hornecker, Pharm.D., BCPS, and Michelle Hilaire, Pharm.D., BCPS, CDE, recently presented at the 48th Annual Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Annual Spring Conference held at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas, May 3–7, 2014. Their lecture-discussion was titled, "Coming Full Circle with Pain Management: Involving Residents, Integrating Disciplines, and Improving Patient Care." Burl Maurer, LCSW, also collaborated on the project.
The presentation focused on the unique pain management programs of the co-presenters' practice sites and how pharmacists play an integral role in caring for this population. The utilization of interdisciplinary teams, educating future family physicians, and the importance of pain management in the patient centered medical home was also discussed.
Hornecker is a UW clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice and is the faculty pharmacist at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program in Casper, Wyoming. Hilaire is also a UW clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice and the faculty pharmacist at the Fort Collins Family Medicine Residency Program in Fort Collins, Colorado.
