Jenna Allais
Pharm.D. Candidate, Class of 2014
Education History:
I graduated from Rock Springs High School in 2008. During my senior year in high school I also took several classes at Western Wyoming Community College. I began college as a freshman at the University of Wyoming in the fall of 2008. I completed two years of pre-pharmacy undergraduate coursework prior to applying and being accepted into the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. I also have a high interest in nutrition, which prompted me to use my elective hours to achieve a minor in this area.
What inspired you to become a pharmacist?
When I first started college I knew I was interested in the health science field, however, I was not sure which career path I wanted to choose. After exploring the different career opportunities in pharmacy and shadowing several pharmacists in the area, I decided that pharmacy was the career choice for me.
Why did you want to attend the UW School of Pharmacy?
I first considered the UW School of Pharmacy because I knew several students who were already studying pharmacy at Wyoming and spoke highly of the program. I was drawn to the smaller class sizes and the individual interactions with the professors. Living in Laramie allows me to continue to enjoy many outdoor activities such as running, skiing, camping, etc.
Student Activities:
I think that being involved in organizations helps students promote professional growth and leadership in pharmacy. I first became involved in a pharmacy student organization as a pre-pharmacy student. This gave me the opportunity to meet students in the program and learn more about the role pharmacists play in the health profession. These organizations provide many opportunities for students to get involved by taking part in various activities such as the annual health fair.
Experiences while at UW and the School of Pharmacy:
I have really enjoyed the faculty at the UW School of Pharmacy. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, experienced in teaching, and dedicated to their field. My professors have always shown a desire for helping students succeed and are more than willing to answer any questions or provide help with any unclear material. I have also enjoyed getting to know all my classmates and have made some great lifelong friends along the way.
Future Goals:
I plan on applying for a PGY1 residency with hopes of becoming a clinical pharmacist. I would like to work in a diabetic clinic as well as become a Certified Diabetes Educator, which would enable me to incorporate my nutritional background into pharmacy practice.
