Wyoming Government Exam (1 credit hour)

Students who have completed a college course in U.S. national government may satisfy the Wyoming government portion of the requirement by taking an exam on Wyoming State politics. This 1-hour examination consists of 50 questions (multiple choice and true/false). Passing= 70%. This exam may be retaken once in your academic career. Sitting fee and application are required for each attempt.

The following book should be obtained: THE EQUALITY STATE, Government and Politics in Wyoming (7th Edition, 2011), by Political Science faculty (available in the UW Bookstore or Coe Library).

American & Wyoming Government Exam (3 credit hours)

Individuals desiring to challenge the entire course (3 hrs. - national and state government) may take a comprehensive examination. This exam consists of 150 multiple choice and true/false questions. Students should obtain the books for POLS 1000, which should include an American Government book as well as the Wyoming government book listed above, from the UW Bookstore and read the U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions. Passing = 70%. This exam may be retaken once in your academic career. Sitting fee and application are required for each attempt.

On Campus Application Procedure

There is an $80.00 sitting fee to take this exam. The application must be obtained from the Office of the Registration and Records during the semester in which the exam is to be taken. Section 1 must be completed by the student. Section 2 must then be approved by the Office of Registration and Records. The student must then take the application to the UW Cashiers' Office to pay the sitting fee. The student is responsible for going to the Political Science Department to sign up for one of the arranged examination times and obtain departmental approval. No test will be giving to those who have not applied, paid the fee and returned the completed application and sitting fee receipt to the Political Science Department. The student must bring his/her Campus ID to the exam for identification. Completed application must be received in the Political Science Department Office (A&S  Building - Room 136) no later than 1 p.m. on the day prior to the exam.

Off Campus Application Procedure

Contact the UW Political Science Department at or (307) 766-6484 to arrange the sign-ip process and assistance setting up a qualified proctor in your own community. This process is available to off campus students only and can take 2-3 weeks to complete.
