Sterling joined the Department of Political Science in 2014 and will serve as the advising coordinator for undergraduate students. Sterling received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa where he majored in Journalism & Mass Communication and Asian Language and Literature. After graduating, Sterling moved to China where he worked as a copy editor at a provincial television station and an English teacher at a high school. He also occasionally worked as a volunteer tour guide, leading groups from the U.S. around Hebei Province.

Upon returning to the U.S., he was hired to lead a group of students to Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games where they served as volunteer journalists. Not long after, Sterling joined the University of Iowa study abroad office as a study abroad adviser, working with programs in East and Southeast Asia, Oceania and Russia. He worked in Iowa for several years before leaving to enroll in a Masters of International and Public Affairs program at the University of Hong Kong. Not long after completing that program, he moved to Wyoming.

Sterling is excited to be working for the University of Wyoming. University students, faculty and staff are always interesting, driven and full of curiosity. Interacting with people that share these qualities pushes him to be equally motivated. He loves outdoor activities and Wyoming offers innumerable places to explore.

Jamie joined the Political Science Department in 2006 serving as the Graduate Coordinator for the MPA and MA programs and is the face you'll see when entering our offices. Prior to joining the department, she gained UW experience in the College of Agriculture. Jamie earned her undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Environmental & Natural Resources and a Master of Public Administration here at UW. She serves on the City of Laramie Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and is working toward a High School teaching certificate.

Originally from Newcastle, Jamie and her husband Brian are proud to claim Laramie as home. They enjoy exploring and playing outdoors in the region year round, sharing their adventures with a precocious three year old named Avery, who was joined by a brother last year named Bridger.

All prospective and current students are welcome to request local tips and tours to learn why people love it here and why you'll be proud to call it home!
