If you are looking to go to medical school, or a professional school of any kind there are several things you can do to make yourself more competitive and to prepare for your undergraduate career. First, we encourage you to take challenging classes! By doing well academically, you will be setting yourself up for success. If you can develop good study skills, then you will be ahead of plenty of incoming freshman. We encourage you, at the very least, fulfill the Hathaway Curriculum for the Honors Level. The Hathaway will put you on the right track for succeeding in college and professional school.
Next it would be a good idea for you to investigate what you want to do before you come to college. Please talk to professionals in the field you are interested in, whether it be dentistry, medicine, or physical therapy. They can tell you what it is really like to be in that field. When you talk to the professional, ask if you can shadow them. If you see something you don't like while you are shadowing, then you will know that you should investigate a different field.
Here are some tips from exploringhealthcareers.org on what you can do now to become more competitive for a career in health care.
Also, check out some great opportunities, like a University of Wyoming summer healthcare camp or the Wyoming High School Health Fair, which is held in Casper, WY each winter. Contact your high school career counselor for details.
