Community Service Day
Members of the University of Wyoming community plan to show their appreciation for the Laramie community with service projects on two successive Saturdays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5.
On Sept. 28, UW students, faculty and staff will join forces with the Laramie Beautification Committee and the city of Laramie for the city’s annual Community Service Day. Students and employees are encouraged to participate in the morning of service, which will involve planting trees and shrubs along East Grand Avenue and cleanup along the roadway. On Oct. 5, UW students will spend the morning on service projects around the community. The Big Event, as the effort is called, will kick off a week of Homecoming festivities. “This is a way for students to say thank you to the greater Laramie community for the support they continue to give the university,” organizers say. The service projects may include raking, painting, window washing and yard work at individual homes. Individual students and student groups are encouraged to sign up as volunteers, and work requests are being accepted. For more on The Big Event, go to www.uwyo.edu/slce/programs/thebigevent.html
