UW Alumni Association welcomes new leadership
A familiar face in the UW community has recently joined the Alumni Association as their Executive Director. Keener Fry was named the new director after a nationwide search. Keener has been the Associate Athletic Director- Annual Giving for the Cowboy Joe Club since 2007 and has served as the Senior Associate Athletic Director at UW from 1997-2001.
"Keener brings an established history with UW, impressive credentials and infectious enthusiasm to the position," said Jan Cook, current UW Alumni Association president. Keener replaces Robbie Darnall in this position and when asked what it means to him to be the new Alumni Executive Director, he had the following to say, "It is a honor to be selected as the new Executive Director of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association. I am humbled to have been chosen as the successor to Mrs. Robbie Darnall after her 30 years of exemplary leadership. I love this university. The opportunity to lead the Alumni Association in service to the university and our alumni is truly special. I am excited to work with our board, staff and university leadership to meet UW alumni and friends throughout the nation and the world and to organize a wide range of opportunities to bring our alumni and friends together. Our alumni and friends are vital to the work that takes place every day on our campus to continue to make the University of Wyoming a leader among public land-grant research institutions."
Keener says he is most excited to have "the opportunity to work with virtually every department on our campus to communicate to our alumni the great stories taking place at the University of Wyoming, including those on our campus and throughout our university through the Outreach program" in his new position.
As far as the direction that he would like to see the Alumni Association head, he says "Our primary goal will be to communicate with and involve alumni and friends so they feel part of the university community even after they've left campus. Thus creating lifelong relationships between the university and our alumni. This effort will involve promoting the university's interests to bring our UW family together. The challenge to continue to build upon our past successes will be to maintain a good balance between holding on to the past while at the same time responding to a changing environment. We will have to continually access our model for alumni relations as the profound changes in communications media evolve. Social media has changed the method of communicating with our alumni that share values and experiences. Social media will remain a significant tool to continue to engage our alumni and to spur them on to become more active in their support of the University of Wyoming."
A self proclaimed lover of college sports and NFL football, Keener says he also like to balance his interests by reading some literary classics and attending plays and musical performances on campus with his wife Lisa.
