Marcia Dale - 1960
First Wyoming nurse accepted as an American Academy of Nursing fellow
Dale was the first nurse from Wyoming to be accepted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
A 1956 graduate of Cheyenne High School, Marcia Dale completed her
degree in nursing at UW in 1960. Following the completion of her
master's degree from the University of Washington, she returned to UW as
a nursing instructor. She was made a full professor in 1975 before
completing her Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1981.
Dale served as associate nursing dean from 1983 to 1993, when she became
dean of the nursing school. She also served as president of several
nursing organizations in Wyoming, including the Wyoming Nurses
Association (1987-1990), the Wyoming State Board of Nursing (1978-1985),
and the Wyoming League for Nursing (1963-65).
She retired in 2003 after 42 years of service to the university.
