Dr. Stephen Nicholas is the current director of pediatrics at the Harlem
Hospital in New York City. A 1981 graduate of the University of
Colorado School of Medicine, he was also the founder of the Incarnation
Children's Center, a care center for children victimized by HIV and
AIDS, located in Washington Heights, New York City.
With pediatric AIDS almost extinct in New York
City now, Nicholas has been working among the rural poor in the
Dominican Republic and Haiti to stem HIV transmission rates from
pregnant women to their newborns. His grant applications for
studies in pediatric AIDS, childhood obesity, sickle cell anemia, and
other diseases have totaled almost $14 million since 1988.
Nicholas resides in Mount Kisco, New York.
