UW Profiles

Laura Freeman

I have had an excellent experience at UW. In the fall of 2009 I was able to travel to Norway and work with experts in the petroleum engineering field. This experience allowed us to transfer state-of-the-art technology to UW by building an experimental setup to measure interfacial properties of important petroleum fluids at high temperatures and pressures. These conditions correspond to those found in reservoirs and deep saline aquifers and hence provide critical knowledge for assessment of the feasibility of CO2 injection projects which are of huge interest to the university, the state, and the nation.

My advisors have helped make my success possible by providing unlimited support and also by spending many hours discussing the complicated details involved with such a project. I am grateful to have been offered such a unique and rewarding opportunity. I have been able to concentrate on my research project which has allowed me to develop detailed insight into various aspects of the experimental apparatus and procedure.

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming is a department with many excellent opportunities. There are great professors with a lot of experience and energy as well as many very talented students who work to help each other. There is also funding for projects in many areas. I would highly recommend the university and the department to any prospective students.
