Instructional Technology Degrees

Our program emphasizes instructional design, distance delivery, rural environments, and learning in a variety of settings. Graduates from Distance education in the Professional Studies departmentour degree program secure employment in PK-12 classrooms; school media and technology centers, and school district administrative offices; public, corporate, and government centers and training agencies; college and university faculty and administrative positions; design and development labs; product support teams; and consulting firms.

Our mission is to assist professionals in effectively developing, implementing, and evaluating systems, tools, strategies, and environments that enhance learning. To fulfill this mission, students and faculty  

  • Pioneer teaching and learning approaches in various virtual and real-life settings
  • Investigate theories and systems of instructional design, delivery, and evaluation
  • Explore distance delivery methods and tools that support community building, professional development, and lifelong learning in formal and informal settings
  • Foster digital citizenship through information, technological, visual, and media literacies
  • Promote research and scholarship through student and faculty publications and presentations

Students who are applying for a doctoral program are eligible to receive monetary support for visiting UW and faculty in Laramie. Up to $200 is available for out-of-state students and up to $50 is available for in-state students. Contact Amanda Pogoreski at apogores@uwyo.edu for details.
