Financial Assistance

financial assistance pictureAssistantships are available to all students. Full time assistantships include a tuition waiver. All assistantships are awarded on the basis of maintaining adequate progress in the program.

Graduate students can expect to receive funding for four years. Funding sources include departmental assistantships, research assistantships, and assistantships at various locations in the University.

Teaching Assistantships

Graduate Students typically assist faculty with General Psychology and laboratory courses. Advanced students may be eligible to teach their own courses. Full-time teaching assistants work approximately 18 hours per week for the 16 weeks of the semester. Summer teaching assistantships are available for advanced students.

Research Assistantships

Research assistantships, funded through grants, may be awarded when available. Individual faculty, at their discretion, award the assistantships. The awards may be for one or two semesters, along with remission of tuition and fees. The research assistantships allow students to work approximately 18 hours per week on research projects with a faculty advisor.

Non-departmental Assistantships

In the past 5 years, psychology graduate students have been successful in obtaining a number of assistantships outside the department. Our students have received assistantships at the University Wellness Center, Drug Education Resource Center, Alcohol Wellness Alternatives, Research & Education (AWARE), Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center (WYSAC), Wyoming Institute for Disabilities, Department of Criminal Justice, Department of Statistics, and Department of Women's Studies. Students have also been awarded assistantships through the Graduate School, including Multicultural Graduate Assistantships and NIH funded programs to improve science education in area schools.
